WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS
Scalable wireless connectivity for IoT
Wirepas Mesh, release 5.0 runs on the IoT devices themselves
to enable a scalable, reliable, and cost-efficient IoT network
within one horizontal connectivity layer for all IoT use cases. It
allows users to collect
data from their sensors
to an IoT application
in the cloud, control
remotely located
devices, communicate
device-to-device in
the network with or
without cloud and
track the location of moving assets. Wirepas Mesh 5.0 introduces
new features that cater to different applications ranging
from logistics to industry 4.0 and smart lighting. The highlights
of these improvements and features are the increase of the
address space from the impressive 16 million to an astonishing
4 billion devices in one single network and new open in-band
joining protocol to further ease deployments. The new release
doubles the data throughput, now handling 150 packets per
second via one gateway, giving an effective application data
throughput of roughly 120 kbit/s. Local multicast improves the
performance of intra-network / node-to-node group communication
and synchronous neighbour discovery enables devices
to discover neighbours synchronously instead of scanning. The
neighbour discovery can be done continuously.

UWB and Bluetooth LE RF module
is only 14x14x1.5mm
The ISP3010 RF module from Insight SiP combines smart
Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) capabilities
with a microcontroller, each
with its own antenna. Both antennas
are integrated into the 14x14x1.5mm
LGA module. The module enables
wireless communication with highly
precise localisation, accurate to within
10 cm over a range of up to 50m. For
applications with ranges of upwards of
50 meters, the ISP3010 can be used
in conjunction with external optimised UWB antennas with
the same precision, depending on the antenna configuration.
Alternatively, the ISP3010 can operate as a standalone tag with
a powerful onboard floating-point processor. It has digital interfaces
allowing it to be integrated into larger, highly complex positioning
solutions. The UWB communication is IEEE802.15.4-
2011 compliant. The device is built around the DecaWave
DW1000 single chip UWB transceiver and nRF52832 Nordic
Semiconductor 2.4 GHz wireless System on Chip. It includes a
32-bit ARM Cortex M4 CPU, 512 kB flash memory, 64 kB RAM
as well as analog and digital peripherals. It is also equipped
with decoupling capacitors, 38.4 MHz crystals for UWB, 32
MHz and 32.768 KHz crystals for BLE, DC-DC converters, RF
matching circuits and two antennas in addition to the wireless
Systems on Chip.

5G and cellular IoTmultiband antenna
the size of a rice-grain
Fractus Antennas has announced ONE mXTEND, a tiny, multiband
antenna booster that is as big as a rice grain and covers
2G through to 5G
ONE mXTEND, with a tiny
volume of 21mm3, is designed
to provide worldwide
5G and cellular IoT connectivity
in a miniature and
ultra-slim, multiband antenna
component avoiding the
usual problem with size restrictions.
The antenna booster has been specifically designed
for providing multiband performance in wireless devices with
small space requirements and is capable of being adapted,
with a high level of flexibility, to the antenna designer needs.
The miniature antenna, in spite of its small size, covers 2G, 3G,
4G and 5G all in one antenna package. This multiband antenna
booster in only 7.0x3.0x1.0mm enables coverage from 824 to
5000 MHz and gives any wireless designer the smallest volume
antenna for cellular IoT and 5G. It is an off the shelf component
ready to be assembled into any wireless device as any other
chip is mounted. The ONE mXTEND antenna booster belongs
to a new generation of antennas based on Virtual Antenna
technology owned by the company. This technology enables
replacing conventional and custom antennas by a new class
of so-called antenna boosters, delivered in the form of a new
range of miniature and off-the-shelf chip antenna components.

An IoT router platform for telecom operators
Based on its Tuya Smart platform, Czech technology startup
Perenio has developed an IoT router platform specifically designed
for telecom operators, IoT Router Elegance.
This collaboration is a part
of the company’s global
project of creating an open
building management ecosystem.
By offering an IoT
router to their customers
instead of the usual router,
telecom operators will be
able to enter a new market,
becoming providers of Smart Home solutions. Using Perenio’s
IoT Router Elegance, operators can offer a wider range of
services to the customers: in addition to telephony and Internet
access, it is about creating an inexpensive and easily customizable
modular Smart Home system. Such a system will provide
security and manage resource consumption. And also customers
can set the scenarios of the devices work depending on the
time of day, weather and the status of the connected sensors.
With the Perenio IoT router and the Tuya Smart platform, endusers
can connect and control a huge range of smart devices
from a single application: sensors, relays, lamps, taps, shutters,
kettles, humidifiers, coffee machines, vacuum cleaners,
surveillance cameras, etc.
